Hardback. This volume is fully bound in vellum covered boards with red speckling to the edges of the text block. Pasted onto the top left corner of the front paste-down is 1 small paper labels with "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall". Pasted onto the centre of the front paste-down is a previous owners bookplate "T. D. Bland Esq. Kippax Park". Written in ink on the top right of the front free end-page is "a Leyde (?) f6-0-0". The spine has 6 raised bands, with "Essais de Montigne" in the 2nd panel and "Tome I" in the 3rd - writen in ink. The board faces have blind tooled borders with a central panel with fleur de lys at the corners and a stamped diamond shaped decorative panel in the centre. The catchword is to the bottom right of each page. Side and foot-notes appear on pages.
