This volume is fully bound in marbled leather over boards On the front paste-down there are 3 labels; within the centre is a large previous owners bookplate comprised of a heraldic device with "Mulahar a Boo" in capitols within a scroll surrounded by "Sir Maurice Fitzgerald Bart; Knight of Kerry" also in an scroll and underneath "Buckland". Bottom left is "From the Library of Kenneth Monkman at Shandy Hall" with underneath "Property of the Laurence Sterne Trust, 1986". Above the bookplate are annotations on pencil "KM D.3 I + II", "imoex 7511" and "The true Dublin 2nd edt. Bookplate of Sir M Fitzgerald, probably the 2nd Bart + 20th Knight of Kerry 1844=1916, v Debrett". On the reverse of the front free end-page top right in pencil is 2Q2" and on the reverse of the title page is a circular stamp with "Laurence sterne Trust Shandy Hall" with "The Kenneth Monkman Collection" inside. On the rear free end-page in ink is "Mrs Bo" (?) and on the rear paste-down in pencil is "K3" reversed with "colla;136pp 138pp Two vols ?". There are some pencil marginalia throughout the text block. The spine has 5 raised bands. The title piece is in gilt capitols in the second panel down "Shandy's Opinions" on an ox-blood background, surrounded by a gilt border of 3 lines .The board edges also have impressed decoration. The catchword is to the bottom right of every page.
